In the mid of July, we swapped our usual beach trip ritual for the wine region of Alsace. No words could explain it better than “Mid-summer dream holidays”, as the place we’re heading to is a collection of utterly fairytale-like villages located in Northeastern France near Germany and Switzerland.
ทุกเดือนในช่วงหน้าร้อน คู่เรามักจะไม่พลาดทริปอาบลมห่มแดดแถวทะเลเมดิเตอร์เรเนียนที่แสนโปรดปราน แน่นอนว่าตัวเลือกอีกตัวย่อมยั่วยวนไม่เบา เมื่อกลางเดือนกรกฎาคมที่ผ่านมาเราจึงยอมหันหลังให้ชายหาด จับมือกันมุ่งหน้าไปยังแคว้นแห่งไร่องุ่นและหมู่บ้านสีลูกกวาด ดินแดนในฝันที่ใครต่อใครต่างพร่ำพรรณนาว่าสวยเลิศเลอราวกับฉากจากหนังเทพนิยายของค่าย Walt Disney แคว้น Alsace ที่ทำเราไขว้เขวนั้น ตั้งอยู่ทางตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของประเทศฝรั่งเศส แถมยังอยู่ไม่ไกลจากประเทศเยอรมันและสวิตเซอร์แลนด์
The gateway to Alsace is Basel airport, which is pretty interesting, it serves the Swiss city of Basel, but it is physically located in French territory, and only a few kilometers to the German border: no wonder its actual name is Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Euroairport.
The confusion is not only in the name though, as we found out after landing when trying to collect our rent-a-car. The terminal is split in two areas, one run by the Swiss and the other by the French, and the famous rental companies have offices on both sides. The issue is that we booked with the Swiss branch, but due to a new rule we would not be insured if we drove to France, so we had to waste some time sorting this out and collect the car at the French side of the airport.
สนามบินปลายทางคือ Basel airport หรือชื่อเต็มว่า Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Euroairport จากชื่อคงเดาได้ไม่ยากว่าเป็นสนามบินที่ใช้ร่วมกันทั้งสามประเทศ อันได้แก่ ฝรั่งเศส เยอรมัน และสวิตเซอร์แลนด์ การแชร์สนามบินของสามประเทศก็นับว่าเก๋ดีอยู่หรอกค่ะ แต่ก็ทำเอาเราเสียเวลาไม่น้อยกับปัญหาเรื่องรถเช่า
เรื่องมีอยู่ว่าเราจะเช่ารถไปขับที่ฝรั่งเศสแต่ดันจองรถไว้กับสาขาของสวิตเซอร์แลนด์ ซึ่งก็อยู่ที่สนามบินเดียวกันนั่นแหละค่ะ เมื่อก่อนก็ไม่มีปัญหาอะไรจนเมื่อไม่นานมานี้ทางบริษัทประกันภัยอุบัติเหตุของสวิตเซอร์แลนด์ดันเพิ่งออกกฏใหม่ว่าจะไม่รับผิดชอบใดๆถ้าเอารถไปขับที่อื่น งานเข้าล่ะทีนี้ เราเลยต้องโทรฯหาศูนย์รถเช่าที่มิลานเพื่อขอแคนเซิล (โชคยังดีที่ไม่โดนปรับอะไร) และเดินข้ามฝั่งไปบูธรถเช่าที่ทางออกของฝรั่งเศส (และโชคยังดีที่มีรถเหลือหนึ่งคันพอดี) เป็นอันจบดราม่าสนามบินรักสามเศร้ารถเช่า 3 ประเทศ
The town of Eguisheim, our first stop, is only an hour away and arriving there I quickly realized why this region is so popular: a unique blend of German medieval architecture with some French flair making it feel like straight out of a fairytale.
อารมณ์ยังคงครุกรุ่นจากดราม่าเมื่อครู่ผนวกกับต่อมความหิวร้องเรียก เราจึงรอให้ไปถึงโรงแรมไม่ไหว ต้องจอดแวะที่เมืองใกล้ๆสนามบินเพื่อหาอะไรรองท้องซักหน่อย และทันใดนั้นก็โดนจู่โจมแบบไม่ทันตั้งตัวเพราะแค่เห็นหมู่บ้านแรกก็ฟินซะแล้วน่ะสิคะ
ที่หมู่บ้าน Eguisheim ถนนหินสายเล็กๆตลอดสายเรียงรายไปด้วยบ้านทรงแฟนซีสีหวาน ที่รู้จักกันในนามสถาปัตยกรรมแบบ Lorraine house (มาจากชื่อแคว้นใกล้ๆ) เป็นบ้านสูง 2-3 ชั้นที่นิยมสร้างติดกันกับบ้านหลังข้างๆให้ขนานเป็นแนวยาวไปกับเส้นถนน ตัวอาคารถูกสร้างด้วยหินฉาบปูนทาสีหวานสวยสดตัดด้วยหน้าต่างกรอบไม้ เป็นดีไซน์สวยโดดเด่นที่ใครเห็นก็ไม่อาจละสายตาได้
After a quick lunch we left again heading to Kaysersberg, where our boutique hotel Le Chambard is located. Part of the Relais & Chateaux group, this little gem is perfect for a weekend hideaway, with a great spa and the two Michelin starred restaurant, 64° Le restaurant, to make sure you will feel spoilt and pampered during your stay.
The town itself is extremely pretty, every little corner gave me an opportunity to take a picture and a lovely place to have a stroll; just next to it, sitting on top of the hill, there is a small ruined ancient tower easily reached by foot, getting up there gave me a overview of the town and surrounding vineyards.
The dinner in the elegant but informal dining room was certainly very pleasant, the Chef Nasti came to our table as well to explain something about his culinary creations.
อิ่มทั้งอาหารปากและอาหารตา เราก็ขับรถต่อไปอีก 30 นาทีจึงถึงที่หมายโรงแรม Le Chambard ในเครือ Relais & Chateaux โรงแรมบูทีคที่มีชื่อในเรื่องสปาและร้านอาหารมิชิลินสตาร์แห่งนี้ ซ่อนตัวอยู่ในหมู่บ้าน Kaysersberg อีกหนึ่งหมู่บ้านขนาดเล็กที่อบอวลไปด้วยมนต์เสน่ห์ วิวจากระเบียงห้องพักคือเนินเขาที่เป็นไร่องุ่นและมองเห็นหอคอยปราสาทเก่าอยู่ลิบๆ ไม่รอช้าต้องขอขึ้นไปสำรวจซักหน่อย หอคอยเป็นอาคารเดียวที่ยังอยู่ในสภาพเกือบสมบูรณ์ตั้งตระหง่านอยู่ท่ามกลางกำแพงปรักหักพัง ในนั้นมีบันไดเหล็กที่ทั้งชันและแคบนำเราขึ้นไปถึงยอดเพื่อชมวิวมุมสูงของหมู่บ้าน มาถึงก็จัดหนัก exercise เลย อากาศดีๆและวิวพาโนราม่างามๆช่วยให้ลืมอาการปวดขาตอนไต่ขึ้นไปได้ชั่วขณะ
ด้านในโรงแรมตกแต่งแบบโมเดิร์นด้วยสีสันจัดจ้านและลูกเล่นมากมาย ทางเดินจากล๊อบบี้ไปที่ห้องพักเสมือนเป็นสวนสนุกย่อมๆ บรรยากาศของร้านอาหาร 64° Le restaurant ร้านหรูระดับสองดาวจากมิชิลินไกด์ ก็ไม่ได้เป็นทางการซะจนต้องนั่งตัวเกร็ง ในทางกลับกันอาหารทุกจานถูกนำมาเสิร์ฟที่โต๊ะด้วยรอยยิ้มและบริการที่เป็นกันเอง ขนาดว่า Chef Nasti เชฟใหญ่ผู้คอยคุมเข้มอยู่ในครัวยังออกมาทักทายและแนะนำอาหารด้วยตัวเองอีกด้วย
Next day we set off to explore a bit more of the area by driving along the famous wine route “Route des vins”, the whole region is pretty small but the gentle hills and vineyards make it a great place for a road trip. Most towns have either German sounding names as Riquewihr or French names such as Ribeauville, to indicate the influence of both countries into this region.
To be honest after a while they all look pretty similar one to another, but this did not take anything from the pleasant afternoons we had walking around and enjoying the relaxed vibe.
Another very interesting thing is that most of those towns seem to host families of storks, with purpose made steel baskets on top of some roofs where those birds can make their own nests, and just fly down to the cobbled streets when searching for food, or posing for a picture.
วันถัดมาเราขับรถไปตามถนนสายไวน์ชื่อดัง “Route des vins” ถนนนี้พาเราซอกแซกผ่านหลายหมู่บ้าน โดยมีฉากสองข้างทางเป็นไร่องุ่นสีเขียวสดบนเนินสโลปสวยงาม จะว่าไปแคว้นนี้ไม่ใหญ่โตอะไร และด้วยความที่อยู่ใกล้ชายแดนจึงได้รับอิทธิพลจากทั้งสองประเทศ บางหมู่บ้านก็ตั้งชื่อตามภาษาเยอรมัน เช่น Riquewihr ส่วน Ribeauville นั้นเป็นชื่อภาษาฝรั่งเศส (ชื่อแอบเรียกยากๆทั้งนั้น)
พอได้ไปเห็นหลายๆหมู่บ้านเข้าก็เริ่มชินตา และชักเริ่มดูเหมือนๆกันไปหมด กลายเป็นว่าสิ่งที่ชวนตื่นเต้นสำหรับเราคือการส่องหารังเจ้านกกระสาตัวเขื่อง! เราได้ค้นพบว่าทุกเมืองจะมีรังนกกระสาอยู่ตามหลังคา ไม่แน่ใจว่าเขาตั้งใจเลี้ยงไว้หรือมันมาทำรังเอง บางตัวคุ้นเคยกับคนมากจนลงมาเดินเล่นโชว์ตัว บ้างมารอขออาหารกินเลยก็มี ความน่ารักน่าชังของมันทำให้เจ้านกกระสากลายเป็น symbol ของแคว้น Alsace ไปโดยปริยาย
The biggest town in the area is Colmar, which is known as “La Petite Venise” and it is also famous for its Christmas markets. The outskirts are those of a modern city, as such I was not so impressed at first, but the city centre is amazingly preserved with many stunning old buildings and you could tell the local people are doing a great job in keeping the magic of such a beautiful town.
Further north, we visited the castle of Haut-Koenigsburg, a great spot for kids and while not the prettiest castle around, it offers great views of the region.
มาถึงหมู่บ้านชื่อดังที่สุดในแคว้น Colmar กับฉายา “La Petite Venise” เนื่องจากมีคลองเล็กๆลัดเลาะรอบเมืองให้นั่งเรือชมได้ คนที่นี่เก่งในการใช้ดอกไม้แต่งแต้มบรรยากาศในแต่ละเมือง บ้านสีหวานๆกับดอกไม้สีสดๆดูยังไง๊ยังไงก็สดชื่นสบายตา แถมเขายังดูแลรักษาอาคารบ้านเรือนเก่าแก่ไว้ได้เป็นอย่างดีทีเดียว
ขับต่อขึ้นไปทางเหนือ แวะเที่ยวปราสาทสวยบนยอดเขา Haut-Koenigsburg Castle ปราสาทขนาดกว้างใหญ่ที่ใช้เวลาเดินชมเพลินๆได้เป็นชั่วโมง ด้วยความสูงของยอดเขาจึงได้เห็นวิวแบบพาโนราม่าที่ดูกว้างไกลสุดสายตา นักท่องเที่ยวที่นี่ส่วนมากมากันเป็นครอบครัว เพราะด้านในปราสาทมี exhibition และกิจกรรมสนุกๆสำหรับเด็กๆด้วยค่ะ
Our last dinner was at La Table du Gourmet, a red-colored dining room sited inside a blue-painted building. The food was superb, as you would expect from a Michelin starred place.
Alsace is a great destination to relax and enjoy pretty natural sceneries and quaint historic towns, the only thing I was not impressed about is the local white wine; normally French wines are on top of my personal list, but I struggled finding anything of my liking here. Well, the solution to this problem is to drink other region’s wine. Just as easy 😉
อาหารมื้อสุดท้ายขอแอบสอยดาวเพิ่มอีกดวง ร้าน La Table du Gourmet ตั้งอยู่ในบ้านเก่าสีฟ้าคลาสสิคที่ตกแต่งด้านในด้วยสีแดงแรงฤทธิ์ ใช้สีตัดกันซะจนแอบตกใจในความกล้า ทั้งรสชาติอาหารและความคิดสร้างสรรค์ของเมนูจัดว่าเยี่ยม และชอบตรงที่เชฟเลือกใช้วัตถุดิบออแกนิคของท้องถิ่นเป็นหลัก
ทั้งอาหาร ทั้งวิว ทั้งบ้านเรือน ทั้งวัฒนธรรมทุกอย่างช่างสวยงามเลอค่าสมกับที่วาดฝันไว้ แต่ๆๆๆๆ มีอยู่อย่างหนึ่งที่ทำเอาเราฝันสลาย เราไม่ประทับใจนักกับไวน์พื้นเมืองของที่นี่ค่ะ เป็นแคว้นผลิตไวน์แต่ไหงไวน์ถึงไม่อร่อยเอาซะเลย ลองชิมหลายแบบหลากขนานก็แล้ว จนสุดท้ายต้องตัดใจสั่งไวน์จากแคว้นอื่นมาดื่มแทน แก้ปัญหาง่ายๆด้วยการกำจัดจุดอ่อนไปซะก็เท่านั้น จากที่แอบเคืองพอได้น้ำองุ่นรสถูกปากมากลั้วคอปุ๊บทุกอย่างก็ดูง่ายดายกลายเป็นสีพาสเทลเหมือนเดิม …and then they lived happily ever after จบบริบูรณ์ค่ะ
